PATIALA: The Illegal Mining Action Committee formed by villagers around 13 villages in Ropar District to curb threats in their area has now decided to write and appeal to the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, the Minority National Commission, and high-ranking officials in Punjab The action was carried out in the case of attacks on mining officials.
S K Kang’s mining officer was attacked and was threatened by illegal miners after he raided illegal mining sites near Gobindpur Bela Village in Nurpur Bedi Tehsil and confiscated three tiping, in addition to submitting three accused.
The defendant was held by villagers in Gobindpur Bela who had told mining officers.
On the way back to the police station, Kang was attacked by illegal miners.
Then, one of them threatened the officers and his family through a telephone call, but the police failed to arrest the defendant so far even though the location was allegedly traced.
Master Mohan Singh, a member of the Illegal Mining Action Committee, said, “We write to the State Human Rights Commission, the Minority National Commission, and Punjab DGP and Ropar IG in terms of attacks and threats given to mining officials.”
