Thiruvananthapuram: Collective who runs a Pothencode library and reading room has ended the boredom of the passengers waiting for the bus at the Pothencode bus terminal.
Now, passengers can enjoy their time at the terminal by reading a book.
Library members have prepared an aluminum box with a glass door named ‘Pusthakakoodu’ to keep the books.
The box is placed in the waiting room and passenger encouraged to read books.
The boxes installed at the Pothencode bus terminal include newspapers, magazines, and several novels.
Because there are schools and colleges near the bus holder, a large number of students also appear every day.
As a pilot phase of the project, only a few books are stored in the box.
The library has decided to increase the number of books that remember the feedback and reaction of the people.
The Pusthakakoodu project was initiated by the State Library Board.
This project aims to install bookboxes in public places so as to provide opportunities for passengers to read.
From the Thiruvananthapuram district, a total of 50 libraries were chosen to implement the project.
As a library is on the top floor of the bus holder, officials will also be able to take care of the box.
Readers can also donate books into the box.
The total cost of the box is Rs 6,800 which are equally funded by the State Library Board and the Library.
