Coimbatore: After Bank ASI in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) turned out to be a hit, a private hospital in the city had set up similar facilities to meet increasing demand.
Bank milk was inaugurated at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital.
On Saturday with the aim of strengthening the importance of breastfeeding.
Project, Nectar of Life, was implemented in hospitals with respect to the Rotary Club from Coembatore Cotton City.
The bank will collect milk donated by breastfeeding mothers, masturing and then freezing for storage.
“When the mother can’t breastfeed for several reasons, they use formula milk or animal milk and children cannot get the benefits of breast milk.
This bank will help babies, whose mother cannot breastfeed them,” the doctor said.
Banks will benefit premature babies stored in neonatal intensive care units, which lack the power to drink milk and those who lose their mother.
This project will help reduce the risk of infection and improve such immune system.
“Bank milk will provide a friendly space for nursing mothers throughout the city, which can donate extra milk.
We will provide milk-free milk for all babies in need,” said P Sukumaran, Dean and hospital medical director.
