New Delhi: The cleanliness and maintenance of Chandni Chowk which is rebuilt will be managed by a private company to be chosen by the Department of Public Works.
The Delhi government has initiated the process to appoint the company.
However, North Delhi City corporate officials, were not too happy with the decision.
Former member of the Mayor and City Council of Aware Bazar Ward Jai Prakash said that waste management was a compulsory function of the Civic body under the Law Delhi Municipal Corporation.
“Chowk’s Chandni stretch maintenance is being privatized, while the DMC acts clearly states that the service is under the corporate corporate jurisdiction.
If the same amount of funds is given to the city corporation, the sanitation workers can do work,” he added.
A corporate senior official said that the four toilet complexes will be developed in a 1.3 km long stretch near Red Fort Junction, Bhagirath Palace, Fountain Chowk and press press.
“We have prepared a plan to provide advertising rights to these buildings to operators which in turn doing cleanliness and stretching.
The proposal was also prepared at a committee meeting that was established.

Sanjay Bhargava, who heads Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal, however, welcomes the government’s move.

According to the rebuilding plan, the large toilet complex will be built near the Fountain Chowk.
