Varanasi: With the issuance of government orders to increase the Varanasi-Bhadohi-Gopiganj State Highway-87 into a four lane road, PWD has intensified efforts to implement the initial project with an investment of 269.10 crores.
Divisional Commissioner, Deepak Agrawal said after administrative and financial approval from the RS 269.10 Crores project for the widening of the SH-87 and the publication of Go, PWD had floated tenders for work.
The state government has allocated Rs 50 Crores for this project in a budget of 2021-22.
The agency was asked to obtain technical approval in accordance with the specified guidelines and started working earlier, he added.
Although the National Highway-2 six lanes continued to connect directly with Varanasi, Bhadohi, City Carpet separated from Varanasi in 1994, did not have world-class road connectivity with Varanasi.
To provide better connectivity to Bhadohi with Varanasi, PWD has continued an estimate around RS 162 Crores for road construction, RS 100 Crores for land acquisition and also the cost of cutting trees, pole shifts, transformers, and religious structures, officials said.
Jalan Varanasi 32 km via Bhadohi also connected to the recently inaugurated Ring-Road Phase-II package – I, said Commissioner added that the Four-Lane SH-87 would not only help in transportation smoothly from carpet shipments to export through Varanasi But also encourage buyers including strangers to often visit the carpet belt.
Apart from this, passenger vehicle traffic is also very heavy on the road two lanes and the conversion of four road lines will alleviate traffic on this road, which has many densely populated areas.
Following this development, the possibility of increasing Varanasi-Chandauli, which was also separated from Varanasi in 1997 to a six lane road, also increased.
Along with the estimated SH-87 projects, PWD officials have also continued the estimate of RS 416 Crores to change the way between Mohansarai and Chakia in Chandauli Regency through the Varanasi train station (Cantument) and Ddu Nagar (Mughalary) into 6-lane roads.
Officials said approval for this project by the state government was eagerly awaited.
