Kalingarayan Canal – One of the main water sources for irrigation in the Erode district – opened by officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) on Wednesday.
Regencyer usually gets water for irrigation from two main sources – Bhavanisagar and Canalarayan Dams.
About 15,743 hectares of land will benefit from the Kalingaraya canal channel.
Every year, the canal is opened on June 15 for irrigation purposes.
This year, however, there is a delay because there is no water.
After the recent rain, farmers urged the district government eroded to open the canal window leaves.
According to PWD officials, water will be released for 210 days until November 17, 2021.
“About 400 cubic feet per second (cusec) water will be released,” they said.
