Qatar to provide food assistance for the Lebanese army amid the economic crisis

Dubai: Qatar will provide the Lebanese Armed Force with 70 tons of food a month, the Qatar State News Agency QNA reported, because Lebanon sought assistance amid the worst economic crisis and civil war since 1975-1990.
The Head of the Lebanese Army Joseph Aoun has appealed to the World Powers at a meeting in France last month for the assistance of the army, whose wages have been plunged in value because the Lebanese pound has hit and inflation.
Qatar donation was announced on Tuesday during a visit to Beirut by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.
Qna does not provide details about the help of food offered.
Sheikh Mohammed urged Lebanese parties to form a new government “to achieve stability”, Qna said.
Lebanese politicians have spent months fighting without approving the new government needed to open international assistance.
The Lebanese cabinet resigned after a large Port Beirut explosion in August last year and had acted in caregiver capacity since then, while the economic crisis in the country of Arabs is indebted.
The Lebanese pound has lost 90% of its value against the dollar since the crisis erupted in 2019.
Lebanon had long looked at the Gulf for financial assistance in the past, but the Sunni Muslim Arabs such as Saudi Arabia have become increasingly reluctant to help because of the increasing influence of Hezbollah, a The Lebanese Shiite group returned by Iran.
Other international and international donors have demanded new governments and great reforms before helping.
