Varanasi: Now the QR weaving code and the logo will tell the identity of the original handloom saree.
The research team in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Industrial Management) of the Indian Institute of Technology, the University of Banaras Hindu (IIT-BHU) has developed a new technique at Saree’s handloom which has QR Weaved Inbuile code which contains details of Saree, Silk, Silk Mark, and Geographic Indication Logo Banaras (GI).
The research work was conducted by IIT (BHU) and Angika Co-operative Society for the action of building trust using QR Code and LOGO on Sarees in the Handloom industry.
According to the researchers, the inbuilt weaving logo in Saree will authenticate the purity of the handmade saree handloom.
This will give trust to customers to choose the right saree handloom and curb the abuse of the handloom and its products.
Profabhash Bhardwaj said that the Varanasi handloom industry must adopt a modern approach.
At present, most customers have cellphones.
With the initiation of Indian digital campaines, people are getting used to technology.
“According to research conducted by our research scholar, there is great potential to combine this industry-based application.
At present, our research team comes with QR code technology and Weaving logo on Saree,” he said, adding that the manufacturer can weave the QR code on Saree with company details and its own manufacturing.
Every time a customer wants to know about a product, he must use a scanner on his cellphone to find out.
He will get all the details included in the QR code, such as the manufacturer’s place, date of manufacture, etc.
These steps will create trust in customers and increase sales, he said.
Research scholar M Krishna Prasnana rose, who worked on the growth of the Banaras Handloom industry, said that the Banaras handloom industry faced many problems, including marketing as the main.
According to his studies, most customers are not aware of the differences between the handloom and power-loom made by the saree.
Only a limited number of customers who know about the handloom sign and GI sign.
His studies also show that customers do not know whether the seller provides a real handloom sign or a duplicate handloom sign with the product.
So, he comes with a saree idea that has a logo and QR code.
He told that the saree designed fully consisted of a length of 6.50 meters where a 1 meter blouse was inserted.
After the sareee is complete, a portion of 6-7 inches plain fabric before the blouse is woven.
This patch contains a QR code and three other logs.
By combining this log in that place, it will not reduce the strength and style of the fabric and the appearance of the saree will remain intact.
Amresh Kushwaha, Chairman, Angika Co-Operative Society and Angika, a Varanasi-based designer, applied the idea for the first time.
They say that the lack of use of the value of the GI and the right handloom sign, the customer is not sure about his originality to be woven on the handloom.
“So, we try to enter the QR code and this mandir log in our saree.
This will help our local and foreign customers distinguish between handloom products and electric weaving equipment products,” they said and added that the team had succeeded in making a Saree with a QR code inbuilt and handloom logo.
