QR code for Transformers, Poland to check power theft

Ghaziabad: The power department has planned to introduce a QR code for electricity poles and transformers in an effort to curb theft.
In some areas, the QR code already exists and officials say, more areas may be discussed soon.
Describing the process, an official said that by scanning the QR code, the power department will recognize the details of consumption in a particular area and it will be compared with meter readings.
Deviations, or aggregate technical and commercial losses (AT & C), can be calculated accordingly.
“Loss of lines, which refers to lost forces in electrical conductors during transmission and distribution, can be calculated in this way.
Although there is a certain percentage of losses due to technical problems, power theft leads to considerable losses.
Cumulatively, this is called AT & Losses C, and an average of around 17% in Ghaziabad, “said Pankaj, Chief Engineer, Pashchimanchal Vitran Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL).
“After the electric poles and transformers have a QR code, they can be scanned to determine the amount of power drawn drawn for a certain period of time,” he added.
He said the reading of meter from all consumers can be added and compared to data.
“The difference will help us assess the problem such as power theft,” he added.
Usually, the electricity pole serves up to eight-10 households and transformers connected to around 300 households.
The process of installing the QR codes will be taken by the agency.
“The QR code has been installed in a certain area and after determining the efficacy, we can increase the coverage area,” Pankaj said.
