Mumbai: Upset with Covid-19 limitations that remain in place even after numbers have seen swimming, some shop owners in Mumbai’s domestic market on Monday protested the government and demanded that they remain open on weekends.
The state government has imposed Level-3 restrictions and therefore, stores are allowed to remain open only until 4pm on weekdays.
The shop owner said that they lost business due to restrictions on Covid-19 and their savings also dried up.
The shop owners in the Dadar area carry placards read – ‘Maharashtra government help us’, ‘we can follow restrictions, only if we survive’.
Speaking to TOI Online, Member of the Dadar Market Association (DMA) said that some store owners were forced to violate the rules because there was no other choice “for the past half of our income source had stopped because of a pandemic.
There are only expenses such as employee salaries, property taxes , rent, and other expenses.
So, the shop owner is left without choice but to break the law, “Deepak Devrukhkar DMA said.
He also alleged that some areas had violated the rules from the first day and those who followed the rules and regulations instead were punished.
“If the situation remains the same, like a farmer, you will see suicide in Mumbai.
35 percent of shops, empty commercial places because no one is ready to pay rent or buy it because there will be no business during business days.
Most people, even who works from busy houses throughout the week and they have also been urgent to keep shops open on weekends.
“” Our only request is that the government allows us to keep shops open on weekends from 9am to 9am to 6 noon Instead of keeping them close, “added Devrukhkar.
The association will also submit a letter to the main minister who asks him to see this problem.
“This is a question about our survival, we have faced many things.
It won’t be easy for us.
If there is no review about restrictions, some shop owners also say that they will keep the shop open and face action (if it comes to it).
