MySuru: The state government’s decision to implement 2020 national education policies from this academic year in the first year’s undergraduate courses has caused a lot of confusion in the higher education sector.
The recent communication of the Karnataka State Higher Education Board (KSHEC) shows that the State Higher Education Department has limited the University’s academic autonomy.
According to the latest instructions issued by Kshec to representatives of Chancellor, they were warned against changing the curriculum content.
VCS was informed that the Board had received a complaint that the Study Council (BOSS) disbursed the content of the subject and influenced the drastic changes in the contents of the core papers as desired and their desires.
It has been warned that if they do it, it will affect the transfer and mobility of student credit.
This will also create equivalence problems.
The contents of the disciplinary core papers from each subject will remain more or less the same in almost all universities.
VCS is warned against the teacher who dilutes content just because they cannot teach them.
All representatives of Chancellor were also asked to comply with national patterns.
“Even in the most advanced countries such as the United States and Britain, teachers are given autonomy to design a curriculum.
Over the years in Karnataka, the BOS is preparing a curriculum framework according to local needs.
However, this year, it has been worn by Kshec.
This has affected autonomy, “said a senior professor.
According to the lecturer from Chamarajanagar, the syllabus for first-level universities has not been identified officially.
When contacted, University of Mysore Vice Chancellor G Hemantha Kumar denied a big problem in the implementation of NEP 2020.
“When the semester system was introduced, there were protests for almost a year.
Some filed complaints with the assumption of future problems,” he said.
“There may be some teeth problems.
Everything will be resolved soon,” he said.
“Nep has a philosophy.
If it is not followed correctly, the NEP will be another ordinary practice.
To reap the benefits of the system, we need to implement a new system correctly,” he said.
Deputy Chairperson of Kshec B Thimmegowda denied all allegations.
“I am available to clarify doubts.
The curriculum committee taken by members of all universities, autonomous colleges, subject experts.
So, all of these complaints have no meaning and baseless,” he said.
