Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has witnessed an unusual busy life in recent months, especially the Department of Oncology and Orthopedics.
The waiting period for beds for operations or other treatments ranges from one to two months.
This hospital has more than 900 beds, including those in the Covid ward.
The patient’s flow increased after a reduction in Covid cases.
About 3,000 patients visit hospital opds per day.
And people face difficulty getting a bed.
Recently, a woman, a brain stroke patient was treated in the hospital emergency ward on August 24.
He only slept on September 2.
He died later.
A orthopedic patient from Jajpur said he was waiting to get a date for the operation.
“I might get a bed at the end of this month and will wait until then.
I can’t go to any personal hospital because of poor financial conditions,” he added.
Some other patients also wait to get a date for surgery.
People don’t come to the hospital, afraid of Covid infection.
Some of them face transportation problems.
After the bus and the train began to run in large quantities, people began to come to large amounts of hospitals.
Director AIIMS Bhubaneswar Gitanjali Batmanabane admitted that there was a waiting period to get a bed at the hospital.
“The waiting period is in all AIIM in this country.
We cannot determine the waiting period.
It depends on the specialization.
Sometimes it might be a month and sometimes two months,” he added.
Almost all OPDs have their registers and they provide the entry date after entering the patient’s name.
“This is the protocol they follow.
Most of us get cancer and orthopedic patients.
Oncology and orthopedics are two departments where there is a patient’s invasion for the Department of Patients in the room (IPD),” he added.
“There are some limitations when recognizing patients to different departments.
Not all beds are given at a certain time.
We save several empty beds in several departments.
But we cannot recognize patients who need surgery to the psychiatric ward,” he said.
