World number three Rafa Nadal will return to action for the first time in more than a month in Citi Open in Washington, the organizer said on Thursday, when the Spaniard was seen to put the French open semi-final defeat with Novak Djokovic behind him.
The last Nadal played at Roland Garros, where he was eliminated by Djokovic’s final champion on June 11 in the Four Thriller film – only his third loss in Paris where he had won a record of 13 titles.
The 35-year-old player later announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics, said he made a decision after consulting his team in an effort to extend his career.
“I hope to play again and Washington will be the best start for the US summer swing for me,” Nadal said.
Nadal will play on July 31 – August.
