New Delhi: Former President of the JNU Student Union and CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar is said to be associated with Congress and tend to join the party immediately, said the sources of the party.
“Kanhaiya Kumar will serve as an important young face from the party in Bihar and will also have a national role to play,” said the source.
They further told Kumar recently met the leader of Congress Rahul Gandhi to discuss this issue.
The source close to Kumar revealed that on several occasions, he met Gandhi.
Discussion about Kanhaiya’s role in the party is in the final stage.
The party was said to be a national movement strategy towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
For this, the influential youth has been identified and Rahul Gandhi is a team of these young leaders to fight a severe vocational basis collected by the Government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier this year, Jitin Prasad and Dev Sushmita resigned from the party’s main membership.
While Prasad joined BJP, Dev was part of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
To revive the party and bring a young face to the front line, the source said that Rahul Gandhi held talks with young leaders including Gujarat members from the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jignesh Mevani.
The source also said that the Allies of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Congress in Bihar was looking at recent developments, regarding Kanhaiya Kumar joined the party, negative.
Meanwhile, several party leaders also argued that Kumar’s recruitment to the party may not be useful because of its relationship in suspected cases of ‘anti-national’ slogan in JNU in 2016.
At present, Kumar is a national member of the Indian Communist Party Executive (CPI).
