Raichur recorded the second highest congregation from the bar-headed swan

Raichur: After flying on the Himalayas at a very challenging height, thousands of goose-headed bars have found new habitats in Masci in Raichur district.
More than 5,000 birds arrived during the early winter in December gathered at Maraladinni Dam alias Nala Dam in Toki Taluk which was below the range of Lingasugur forests.
The birds are expected to leave in March.
This is the second highest goose congregation in the state after Magadi Bird Sanctuary in Gadag where the count reached 7,000 in December.
Unlike previous years, more than 4,000 birds have moved in January and some lodged in Shettikere, a nearby lake.
So far, the highest recording number in Magadi is 10,000 in 2019.
The geese also traveled to MySuru, Shivamogga, Davanagere and other parts of the country but in small quantities.
Barheads of bars usually migrate from Mongolia, Tibet or China and travel thousands of kilometers fly at an altitude of 7,000 meters where oxygen is low.
Their large lungs support them to fly at extreme heights such as Mount Everest.
According to Lingasugur RFO, Chennabasavaraj Kattimani is a magnificent site in the dam.
Birds can be seen flying around 100 hectares across the dam.
This is the first time the dam sees these goose migration in that amount.
The reason for making this new habitat is the research subject, he said.
In the last calculation above 5,000 and in the coming days detailed calculation will be carried out to record accurate numbers.
Birds go eat peanuts and rice granules after 6pm.
Birds are here for food, warmth and shelter.
In previous years in hundreds according to forest staff who have worked here for several years.
During the day they look flying around and play in the water of the dam.
Parimala VH, an assistant forest conservator from Gadag told Toi, “Because there are more water in Magadi, birds find it difficult to nest and breed.
Therefore they might have moved from here in January.
However, if the goose camped at Raichur has traveled from GADAG unknown because they have not been tracked.
The birds in masks may also have migrated separately from Mongolia and other countries.
In addition to gadag peanut cultivation has dropped drastically due to changing weather conditions and in Groundnut Raichur is planted in large quantities
