Rain batters Portions of K’taka; Guy swept out in Belagavi

BENGALURU: Swollen rivers plus also a flood-like scenario are once more posing danger to lives and property in a number of sections of Karnataka that have been contested by rainfall over the last couple of days.
Incessant rain in South Maharashtra along with a few North Karnataka districts contributed to greater discharge of water in reservoirs, that continues to be causing some damage across the Bheema and Krishna basins.
Even a 65-year-old farmer, Siddaraya Doddarama, was hauled off in Markandeya river Belagavi while he had been washing himself following sowing.
A 13-member Condition Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) group has established an operation to follow him.
Kabini reservoir police have issued a flood alarm, warning citizens living downstream of the dam in Mysuru’s HD Kote and requesting them to move to safer places.
Almost 5,000 cusecs of water was discharged from the dam because Saturday.
A landslide was noted close to the Hopcoms building contrary Madikeri post office at Kodagu on Friday, but police claimed that it was because of unscientific digging for building of a private construction.
Kodagu was watching incessant rainfall over the last week and the majority of its rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
As all significant rivers are swelling, the government has started preparations for relief and rescue.
NDRF and SDRF teams are stationed in flood-prone districts, such as Belagavi, Bagalkot, Yadgir, Mysuru and Kodagu.
The administrations of those districts also have been advocating farmers in most low-lying regions to go to safer zones.
Many districts have put up 15-member rescue groups of youths in cities.
They’ve been trained by specialists from CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation).
