Rain fills waterbodies to the periphery

Coimbatore: Most waterbodies in the city and on their outskirts have been filled with full, even because more rain is estimated to absorb the district in the coming days.
A Public Works Department official (PWD) said Ukkadam Periyakulam, Valankulam, Lake Krishnampati, Selvampati Lake, Saraste Lake, Lake Vellalore and Lake Selvachinthamani were all on the outlet channel.
All these waterbodies are located in Kothah basin in the south of the city.
With the meteorological department that predicts more rain, he said, together with city corporate officials, very monitoring waterbodies.
The official said that almost all Waterbodies in the Noyyal Basin had filled their 100% capacity because of excessive water flow in the river.
The only exception is NeeBur Lake and the FURE Big Tank, which is only 95% full.
“Because they are in the Spate, we have closed the incoming channel for them completely.
Only rainwater from the city will flow to them for now.
We are very monitoring waterbodi to prevent violations.” According to weather experts, this district usually receives heavy rain.
From the northeastern rainy season in October (on average 142.8mm), followed in November (84.2 mm) and December (23.1mm).
However, the district has received 177.5mm rainfall this October.
Big dams inside and around the district also quickly fill, thanks to heavy rainfall.
While the water level in the Aliyar Dam has touched 118.85ft against a full capacity of 120 feet, the level of Bhavanisagar dam rose to 103ft against a full capacity of 105 feet.
Water levels in the Dam Pillur, meanwhile, touching 88ft to 100ft full capacity and the level in Siruvani has increased to 44.64ft against a full capacity of 49,53ft.
Activists, meanwhile, said some waterbodies did not have the right weir and hence it was difficult for excess water to flow out.
R Manikandan, Coordinator of Kovai Kovai Kovai Kovai AmaiPPU, said the reason for AirLogging in Junction Ramanathapuram at Trichy Main Road is the absence of the right weir in Tank Valankulam.
“Water surplus cannot flow out of the tank and it creates waterlogging in Ramanathapuram Jn.
All waterbodies should be checked and officials must ensure that the right weir is in place.” Other activists said Lake Chinnavedampatti, located in the northern part of the city, did not accept Water is in harmony with rainfall in the catchment area such as Thadagam, Mangulai and Kanuvai.
S Sivaraja, coordinator of the Lake Restoration Association of Chinnavedampatti, said that small flow in the Thadagam area did not culminate in Sanganur’s stream because of several violations in their track.
“Sanganur water stream flows to the Pannimadai checking the dam, from where the water reaches the lake through Raajavaikkal.
Because the small flow does not reach Sanganur stream, the flow to the lake is beaten.
If the lake gets more water, it will help increase the underground water table.
Therefore , officials must do what is needed to ensure the right water flow to the earliest lake.
