Mumbai: While August only recorded 53% of the rain needed for months in Mumbai, heavy rain activities, likely to pick up a step again from Tuesday, said IMD.
The low pressure area is being built on Vidarbha which is expected to move west, bring a heavy shower in isolated places in the city, while part of Thane, Raigad and Palghar may see more intense rainfall with orange warnings on the spot.
Shubhangi Bhute, scientists at IMD Mumbai, said that in the upcoming 3-4 days, Maharashtra is expected to see increased rainfall activity with very heavy rain as well as possible in several places.
“In Konkan, part of Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Mumbai can see heavy rain activities,” he said.
Mumbai only recorded 289.4mm rain in August this year with an average of 546.2mm that this month noted normally.
This is only 53% of the rainfall needed for August.
Instead, June and July recorded excessive rain.
For August 31 and September 1, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for Mumbai, showing with heavy rain in isolated places while Orange Alert has been issued for Thane and Raigad for August 31.
Meanwhile, Palghar was placed under yellow.
Warning for Tuesday, and orange warnings have been issued for 1.
IMD has also predicted that with rain, maximum and minimum temperatures in the city, each floating around 31 degrees and 26 degrees, also tend to see a decline.
