New Delhi: The rainfall in July has a flawless 26 percent over the country, Director General of General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra told the Minister of Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh on Sunday.
During his visit to the Ministry of India’s Meteorology, Singh was also informed by officials that IMD had 27 radars spread across the country and the number would rise until the next 50 years.
The Minister spends more than one hour studying southwest monsun trends.
He also visited the satellite section and exclusive radar, and discussed the process of procuring data in real-time.
Singh also received updates about variations in Delhi air quality.
“Director General, IMD, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra told the minister that this year the rainfall of the rainy season was 10 percent above normal in June, but 26 percent deficiency to date in July,” said a statement.
From the rainfall season four months, July and August brought maximum rainfall throughout the country.
In his estimate for July, IMD had predicted normal rainfall.
After a break in the rainy season, Southwest Monsun began to revive from July 8 since then some parts of the country have witnessed heavy rainfall.
Said that analysis of weather forecast data was complex exercises, Singh urged scientists to IMD to focus more on forecasting more accurately.
He asked officials to improve people-oriented services, especially for the agricultural and disaster sectors such as flash floods, cyclones and rain fell, using applications and other high-tech options.
For the benefit of farmers, using the Portal of the Minister of Agriculture Mkisan, IMD currently sends more than 42 million SMS twice a week to farmers throughout the country, ministers are told.
Mohapatra said that India was one of five countries in the world that had the most modern lightning estimated system in place.
The IMD hydromet service, using radar technology, allows forecasting flooding in the river area.
Apart from city specifically estimates, information about flash floods in South Asia is also provided through this service.
