Rainstorms bring relief since Europe feels summer heatwave

BERLIN: Thunderstorms attracted a much-needed cooldown into portions of Western Europe during the weekend since the continent sweltered below its very first summer heatwave.
Forecasters predicted additional downpours Monday moving toward Poland, that has witnessed five times of hot weather.
Germany’s national weather agency DWD stated temperatures at the west and west of the country fell from more than 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) on the weekend to approximately 20 C (68 F) following a night of rain.
Back in France, powerful winds and tornados during the weekend caused a harm, such as toppling a church spire at the village of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, south west of Paris.
No serious injuries were reported as a consequence of the storms.
But governments in Germany say many individuals have drowned lately while looking for relief from the warmth in lakes, pools, and rivers.
Authorities in the Netherlands stated two bodies have been discovered in recent times at various places from the Waal River, a branch of the Rhine, however, provided no further information.
Police in neighboring Germany were looking for just two women, aged 13 and 14, who went missing while swimming at the Rhine close Duisburg a week.
A third teenager was pulled from this river Wednesday but could not be resuscitated.
Authorities in Austria reported that a 26-year-old guy died Sunday after leaping out of a 40-meter (131-foot) cliff in the Wolfgangsee lake.
