Jaipur: The situation of the pandemic in the state seems controlled but a new variant found in South Africa has raised concern.
Health experts in the state say that the Delta variant has dominated the second wave and now, the third wave may appear if the new variant enters the country.
The Ministry of Health oversees the situation of the pandemic throughout the world, because it might affect the country too.
A health department official said that a new variant in South Africa has many mutations, which is why he might have increased transmission.
He added that the country has reported cases of variants such as Alpha, Kappa, Delta and one sample have also been tested positive for Delta +.
The state government has established a genome sequencing laboratory in the Sawai Man Singh Medical College which conducts the sequencing of the Covid patient’s genome from various parts of the country.
Samples were sent by the Head of the District Medical Health Officer in the state for the sequencing of the genome to ensure the virus had not mutated.
