Jaipur: It was an encouraging day for India and Rajasthan on Monday at Tokyo Paralympics 2020 when the country pocketed five medals, with athletes from the State of Desert claiming three of them, including historic gold by the 19-year-old shooter Avani Lekhara Jaipur on the Rifle Air F-64.
Javelin Antil Sumit Thrower won another gold in the F-46 category for this country with a world record throw of 68.55 meters, broke the previous world record in the process.
Rajasthan Veteran Devendra Jhajharia bagged silver with the best personal 64.35 meters in the Javelin F-46 category, bringing home the third medal in three consecutive paralympics.
After winning the two gold in the previous edition, the achievements of the Jhjharia had never happened before for an Indian athlete.
Sundar Singh Gurjar, who came from Karauli District, won the bronze in the same Javelin F-46 category, gave the third medal country at the Tokyo event.
The second silver for the country was won by discus Thrower Yogesh Kathuniya in the F-56 category, taking the overall Indian calculation to seven medals at one of the largest sporting events in the world.
Lekhara, who made a brave statement with a score of 249.6 in the Final AC 17M Air Rifle Standing SH-1, became the first Indian woman to win gold in Paralympics.
