Jaipur: Rajasthan has recorded more than 15,000 road accidents between January and August on the Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD), which has been developed by the Indian Technology Institute (IITM) and is implemented by the National Informatics Center.
Although Rajasthan launched a central accident’s database management system on March 15, backlog data from the first two months of this year was also added by nodal institutions.
This system was first tested in six countries with the highest death of the road crash – Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
Irad is a comprehensive web-based information technology solution and will enable various institutions such as police, Public Works Department (PWD) and other departments to include details about accidents on roads from different perspectives such as investigations, road engineering, vehicle conditions, etc.
“Rajasthan has updated 15,598 accidents since Januray and Irad gives us real time data that helps in analyzing the causes and nature of accidents among other things.
Previously, this was done manually, but now we immediately get data.
Rajasthan police have actively upded Details of accidents and health workers who immediately nodal and road owner departments will be appointed so that they can also update in Irad, “said Nidhi Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Transportation (road safety), Rajasthan.
The central database also maintains fire records submitted on crashes and how many details are injured actually needing hospitalization.
It also classifies crashes according to weather conditions, time, type of road and intersection, traffic violations and pedestrian infrastructure.
In Rajasthan, 32.1% was a fatal accident while 24% sad while the rest was a simple injury.
In 47.7% of accident cases, registered firs.
Deciphering further, the official said, “This system is still finetuned and we send requirements to the authorities regarding regularly so that the data collected can have more categories depending on conditions in Rajasthan.”
