JAIPUR: Dengue continues to take a toll on the country, reported 28 deaths so far this year.
This is the highest in the last seven years or since 2015.
According to the National Control Programs Vector Borne Diseases, the country has reported seven dengue deaths in 2015, 16 in 2016, 14 in 2017, 10 in 2018, 17 in 2019 and seven in 2020.
But the disease has claimed 28 lives up to 3 November this year.
The state also reported 11 913 cases of dengue fever.
Of these, 5116 have been reported in the last 16 days (19 October to 3 November).
The speed at which spreads dengue fever in the state can be gauged by the fact that approximately 43% of cases have been reported in the 16 days this year.
The doctor said that dengue causes complications of multiple organ this year.
Many patients getting admitted to the hospital have symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS).
In DHF, a patient complains of fever with bleeding tendency, low blood platelet count and plasma leakage.
In DSS, a patient complains of fever with evidence of circulatory failure characterized by rapid and weak pulse, narrow pulse pressure, cold clammy skin, anxiety and abdominal pain.
“Dengue tendency in dengue patients can be identified by test tourniquet positive, bleeding from other sites and the drop in platelet count,” said Dr Sudhir Bhandari, principal and controller, SMS Medical College.
The doctors have been asked to monitor the dengue patients and identify hemorrhagic tendency and continue to observe the patient’s plasma leakage for effective treatment.
