Jaipur: Pandemic has taken the sheen from the goat market in front of Bakra Eid for the second year in a row.
Bakra Bakra Bengh Bath in the state (goat market) in Nagar transportation here has a breed top but limited buyers.
High goats – Kaithawari, Sirohi and Shekhawati – who usually take up to RS 1 lakh are available for around Rs 50,000 because Eid al-Fitr is only one day.
Pandemic has given a spell on the owner of goat farmers who only collect normal goats for fear of a poor person’s purchase and the power.
Lifting the upper goat breed is very expensive because they eat a special diet from dried fruit to expensive herbs and bushes.
Because goats are less on the market compared to the pre-pandemic years, normal goat prices have jumped by 20-30% while the price of high-end goats dropped.
Goat Trader Hasan Ali said because of a pandemic, agricultural owners had fewer goats.
“The middle class and middle class to the top of the goat in the range of Rs 20,000-40,000 weighing around 30-40kg.
The rich people go for a goat worth Lakh Rupee,” Ali said, who came to Jaipur from Nagaur.
This is the second consecutive year for goat farm owners suffer losses because of Covid.
Buyers from the closest districts such as Tonk, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur and Ajmer will also be disappointed.
Syed Shahnawaz Chishty, a priest in Dargah Ajmer who bought a goat every year from Jaipur Goat shower, returned with an empty hand last night.
“Like the previous year, the goat market was very boring with several goats available from high breeds.
Because most of the goats were in a hurry, I had decided to buy it from my local bath,” Chishty said.
