Panaji: The President on Tuesday appointed former Goa speaker and senior BJP Rajendra Arlekar official, 67, as Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Arlekar, former BJP country president, will take an oath in the next few days.
Arlekar said that PM Narendra Modi called him on Monday and seeking his opinion about the central decision to appoint Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Arlekar said he would go with whatever was decided by Modi, after that PM, and then, President R n Kovind, personally called and congratulated him.
Arlekar recently told the Secretary General of the National BJP (Organization) B L Santosh that he was not interested in fighting with the assembly selection of 2022, but instead wanted to work for a party.
Arlekar comes from RSS 1989 cadres induced into BJP.
Another of the batch, Shripad rose, then became the first Ayush Minister in India, a post he still held.
On Monday, Arlekar said that his appointment had shown that the party respects the work of approach in Karyakarta with the party.
“I feel humble and grateful to the leadership of BJP, thanked PM, President and Interior Minister Amit Shah, who has shown their trust in me,” he said.
Former Minister of Forest and Environment in the Laxmikant Parishkar government said that his experience as a speaker and minister would help him in carrying out his duties as governor.
He also said that when he was a speaker from the Goa legislative assembly, he learned how not biased.
“I have learned not to be biased, and a governor is always impartial,” he said.
“I will work according to the constitution.” Arlekar, trade graduates, have been associated with RSS since his childhood.
His father, Vishwanath Arlekar, was in Jan Sangh.
The newly appointed governor has worked with the former Minister of Chief and Minister of Defense Manohar Parragar in building parties.
Arlekar is also a member of the party’s core committee.
Arlekar fought the election of his first assembly in 2002 of the constituency of Vasco Da Gama, and was elected.
He lost seats in 2007, and in 2012, he was elected from Pernem’s constituency.
In 2017, Arlekar lost to the deputy chairman of the minister’s current Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, who at that time at MGP.
