Rajkot: Rajkot City is one of the top 11 cities of 107 which participated in Cycle 4 Change Challenge.
Rajkot will get Rs 1 Crore to promote infrastructure and projects that drive cycling in the city.
Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to use funds for further promoting cycling in the city.
India Cycle 4 Change Challenge is an initiative to unite the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the Smart Cities mission.
The aim is to inspire urban local agencies to apply friendly cycling initiatives in response to Covid-19.
Local agencies participating in this challenge must implement a scheme to promote cycling among citizens and create infrastructure for cyclists on the road.
Rajkot Mayor Pradeep Dav said, “We are pleased that our efforts have been recognized at the national level.
We will use this fund to promote cycling in the city.” RMC has conducted a survey of potential cycling routes and facilities needed for cyclists before participating in challenges.
Based on the output, the pilot project starts on the BRTS route where the special path for cyclists is made.
RMC also promotes Cycle2Work on social media.
Under this program, senior RMC officials and employees began to come to the office with cycles every Friday.
The Civic body also started a cycle sharing project in the racing arena under the public-private partnership model in addition to providing subsidies for the buyer’s cycle.
