Rajkot: In the expected movement, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) committee on Thursday reduced the vehicle’s tax rate proposed by the city commissioner in a budget for 2022-23.
While approving the budget, the committee also proposed 17 new schemes for Rajkot and announced plans to digitize all RMC services.
Amit City Commissioner Arora has proposed to collect vehicle tax between 2.50% to 5% in different slabs, by eliminating the Ad Valorem system.
The committee reduces this tax rate to 1.50% to 3%.
Previously, it was estimated that the RMC would produce around RS 15 Crore from vehicle tax, but now the income will be halved to around RS seven crores with reduction.
The committee still proposes to adjust this deficit in revenue through the location of LED hoarding.
RMC has 38 hoarding sites that display various schemes and projects.
RMC will provide a screen time slot to a private advertising company that will help the Civic body get RS four crore every year.
RMC has provided a 10% initial discount for those who pay property taxes in April and May.
The committee continues to announce a one-percent tax assistance to these taxpayers in the next financial year, which has paid sophisticated tax for the last three years in a row.
An additional 5% discount will be given to the physically challenged property holder who has a disability of more than 50%.
The committee still plans to start the Civic Center as part of e-governance.
At present, people must visit civil centers to utilize various services and submit physical documents.
Now it has been decided to bring all RMC services on one digital platform where people can send online applications and upload scanned documents instead of visiting the centers physically.
Digital Civic Center will include services such as property taxes, water connections, drainage connections, professional taxes, community centers, wedding registration etc.
and people can trace their application status online.
The 10 lakh RS allocation has also been made for file tracking systems where applicants can track various stages of their files online, the revised RMC budget for FY 2022-23 is now Rs 2,355.78 Crore.
