New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday dedicated to the nation of 63 bridges built by the Organization of the Border Road (Bro) in six states and two union territories glowed with a focus on increasing border infrastructure.
Singh, on a three-day visit to Ladakh, inaugurated the bridge at an event held at Kyungam, 88 km from Leh.
The event was attended by Governor Liat Ladakh RK Mathur, General Officer-Commanding-in-Command Command Northern Lt General YK Joshi, Director General of Border Street Organization Latt Rajeev Chaudhry and other senior senior and military officials.
Head of Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim was among those who attended the event virtually.
Officials said the inauguration of the 50 meter bridge built on Jalan Leh-Lome in Ladakh was significant because it would help in the movement of the forces and other military hardware.
“This single-range steel superstructure bridge, which replaces the existing Bailey Bridge, will ensure the movement of heavy weapons systems that are not blocked, including weapons, tanks and other special equipment,” the Ministry of Defense said.
The Leh-Lome road that connects with places like Chumatang, Lake Hanley and Tso Morori are very important for access to advanced areas in East Ladakh.
In addition, Singh Virtual inaugurated 62 other bridges – 11 in Ladakh, four in Jammu and Kashmir, three at Himachal Pradesh, six in Uttarakhand, eight in Sikkim, one in Nagaland and 29 in Arunachal Pradesh.
The combined costs of the project are Rs 240 Crore and they will provide a tremendous encouragement for connectivity in the border area, the ministry said talking about the opportunity, the defense minister praised the commitment of Bro to improving connectivity to distant areas, especially during the pandemic Covid-19, said That some of these bridges will be a lifeline for many villages located in remote areas.
Underlining the importance of connectivity, especially in the border area for the development of a nation, he reaffirmed the government’s determination to ensure infrastructure development in distant border areas.
Singh said the inauguration of 63 bridges was an important step in that direction and expressed confidence that new infrastructure would play an important role in strengthening security.
In the government’s decision to Bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as two separate union areas, he stated that “strong steps and visionary” has strengthened national unity, causing a large reduction in terrorist activities and opening new roads for socio-economic development -person.
In the development of Ladakh, Singh said a number of welfare schemes were being implemented, including the Pradhan Mantri Beware of Yojana, the mission of the national rural livelihood, Pradhan Gram Sadak Yijaja and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, showed the determination of the welfare of the region.
