Patna: Rajni Devi (50), who represented the ward number 22 (c), became the new Deputy Mayor of Patna Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
He was given an oath of office by Patna DM-Cum-District of Chandrashekhar Singh’s election officer here.
Rajni was chosen as the Deputy Mayor after defeating him the closest rival and cousin-in-law of Suchitra Singh Ward 22 (B) 74% of people, who were the majority of almost two-thirds.
Rajni was the elected candidate from Patna Mayor Sita Sahu while the opposition group led by former Deputy Mayor of Meera Devi was contested by the traitor Suchitra, who is also a member of the committee standing empowered by the civil body.
A total of 59 of the 74 members of the Board participated in the voting process.
The voice of one council member was declared illegally by judges and observers appointed by the district government.
Rajni got 43 people in him supporting and Suchitra 15.
“The meeting to elect the Deputy Mayor continued all night on Wednesday.
I was surprised when my own brother-in-law was contested to me to post.
It was something I never expected, “said Rajni, added that he would try his best to meet the expectations of the community.
Rajni is the Deputy Mayor of the Third Patna in the last four years.
He had previously been contested for the election of the Mayor in 2017 against Sita Sahu.
However, he lost three people.
Sahu congratulates the new Deputy Mayor and said the pace of development work in the city will collect speed now.
DM said the nomination process, supervision, withdrawal of nomination and preparation for ballots for the election of deputy mayors was resolved peacefully.
