New Delhi: In the dramatic turnover of events, the Interior Ministry on Tuesday appointed Rakesh Asthana, 1984 batch IPS officers, as the Delhi new police commissioner, four days before he retired from the service.
Asthana serves as head of border security forces; The head of the ITBP, S s des., has been given additional BSF charges until the regular appointment was made.
Asthana will be responsible on Wednesday.
Asthana’s appointment followed a service extension for a year and inter-administrative transfer, because he belonged to Gujarat cadres and Delhi CP posts were present under AGMUT cadres (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union region).
The government did not promote a regular meeting for the Delhi police chief after S N Shrivastava retirement on June 30, 1988-Batch IPS Officer Balaji Srivastava was given an additional fee of the post.
Asthana has served a police commissioner in cities such as Vadodara and Letters and have a strong footprint record in the city police.
Rakesh Asthana, Delhi’s new police commissioner, owned by Ranchi and conducted his studies from Netarhat Residential School, Agra University, and then from JNU.
The government’s sources said that Asthana had been charged with Delhi police because of the ongoing farmer protest and Pandemic Covid-19, which could not be predicted in the future, among others.
Investigation of past year riots cases also at an important stage.
Asthana has held several high posts and craves during his career.
He first shot to the center of attention in the late 1990s for his investigation of animal feed fraud, which ultimately led to the belief of the former head of the Head of Bihar then Prasad Yadav.
He served in various posts in the CBI during his first task back to 1995 as a police supervisor in the agency.
He was a special director in the agency when he led an investigation in the case of Vijay Mallya and Christian Michel, playing an instrumental role in the last extradition of Dubai.
In 2018, he was involved in a bitter dispute with the Alok Verma Agency Head, who proceeded to file brilliantly against him.
Next, both of them were moved from the CBI.
The court then canceled the shootout and gave him a clean chit.
Asthana has also been given a clean chit in the bribery case of Biotech Sandesara Bribers based in Vadodara.
After the CBI, he posted as Director General of Civil Aviation before being used as the Head of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
With him at the top of the leadership, NCB cracked above the alleged Nexus crush involving Bollywood actors, regardless of removing various active drug modules in this country.
Last year in August, Asthana was made by the Director General of BSF when asked to continue as NCB’s head.
This causes hard action on cross-border and international drug cartels.
He is a strong competitor for the position of the Head of the CBI but passed by the panel.
Appointment as Police Chief Delhi can ointment at least part of the disappointment felt by officers who have grabbed applause by uncovering the conspiracy behind the serial bombing case in Vadodara involving Indian Mujahideen.
Asthana is the second IPS officer to be appointed by CP Delhi in inter-cadre deputation.
Before Asthana, Ajay Raj Sharma from over cadres had led the troops.
Interestingly, Sharma was appointed as DG BSF in 2002 after his term as CP Delhi.
