Mumbai: Bridge RAM Mandir at SV Road in the western suburbs in Nullah whose surface is washed away after heavy rains midnight July 17 to 18 this year (also the day when the two landslides were reported in Mumbai in Vikhroli, Mahul) once again started to move today’s vehicles , BMC officials said that after incessant rains in July washed away the asphalt surface and expose the same concrete slab must be corrected.
Chief bridge engineer Satish Thosar said, “Slab of concrete thrown on the site has been placed on top of the stretch.
Stop work is underway to increase the width of the entire stretch.
Currently only light vehicles are allowed to use it.” Locals say that the suspension bridge was causing congestion in the area as an alternative access is a single lane road and nearly two-kilometer detour.
The bridge is an important connector primarily for entry and exit to goregaon and also for riders of Lokandwala, Oshiwara who want to head north towards Malad, Kandivali.
Local Corporator Sandeep Patel of the BJP said, “Close the remaining bridges hinder the movement of traffic over the last few months.
It also puts a lot of load on the Veer Savarkar flyover in Goregaon West because the vehicles have to use the same, a waste of time 20-15 minutes .
While the bridge is not safe to use, there is also a need to open more quickly.
“Goregaon Corporator Deepak Thakur said that they should continue to follow up with the authorities to open the bridge.
“We have a joint meeting with the authorities to ensure that the bridge is opened as soon as possible,” said Thakur.
Oshiwara bridge located at the intersection of S V Road and Ram Mandir, which connects Mrinaltai Gore Flyover to travel east to west.
Dhaval Shah of the Oshiwara Lokhandwala Citizens Association says that around 100 meter stretch is removed.
“It is good that the bridge has been restored today finally to access the same vehicles as the cause massive congestion in the area because alternative access only a single track road and detour nearly two kilometers,” said Shah.
BMC also said that repairs to the bridge Oshiwara Nullah also along the same route will be taken immediately.
