Karachi: The former captain of the famous Test and Commentator Rameez Raja can replace Ehsan Mani as the next chairman of the Pakistani cricket board, said a source on Saturday.
The king did not respond to calls and messages but the media report said that Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was also a patron-in-head of the Board had decided to provide a man’s extension after this period ended this month.
“In the next few days, PM will send two names to PCB government boards for the election of the chairman and the members will choose one of them,” said PCB source.
The source said when they heard the name Rameez as one of the two candidates for a prestigious position, no one was confirmed.
The source was originally the names of Mani and Asad Ali Khan, a senior bureaucrat had been mentioned as two candidates for leadership but now it seems that PM decided to leave for a former captain.
“Ramez seems to be the ideal candidate because he is highly educated, experienced, and has international contacts because of his years as commentators.
He is also the CEO of the Board in the past and left because of his other commitment,” said the source.
Apparently Imran Khan, he himself was a former captain under Who Rameez played the 1992 World Cup, felt it’s time for a former player to run cricket affairs in the country.
Another source said Ehsan Mani also expressed reluctance to continue another period of time due to health problems.
The government and the Board have appointed a retired judge, Azmat Sheikh as election commissioner to carry out the election process for the post chairman.
