NEW DELHI: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has made a new boost for the virtual meeting of parliamentarycomes because some of the deliberations were influenced on Monday after more than 400 staff of the parliamentary secretariat were tested positive for Covid.
“I asked the chairman of Rajya Sabha on the last day of the winter session to allow the committee’s online meeting to stand up.
And again this is not permitted,” Ramesh, a member of Rajya Sabha and Chairman of the Committee regarding Science and Technology, said on Twitter.
“Now, an important committee meeting is being postponed.
I can’t understand why online meetings cannot be held,” he said.
Previously, during the first wave and second Covid, the standing committee meeting was called.
Ramesh and Chairman of the Committee stands domestically and that, Anand Sharma and Shashi Tharoor, have also called for a virtual meeting of the Parliament Committee.
The parliamentary secretariat officer said that permits for the virtual meeting of the Parliament Committee had been rejected because the deliberation was kept secret and the rules must be changed to enable them.
More than 400 parliamentarian staff have been tested positive for Covid during random testing.
Among those tested positively was 65 of Rajya Sabha, 200 of Lok Sabha and 133 belonging to allied services.
