Nainital: When heavy rains continue to attack the state capital, part of Jalan Raya Ranipokhari on Jalan Raya Dehradun-Rishikesh was washed.
Rivulet flowing under the flyover has swelled over the past few days and the kite wall collapsed on Friday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses and local officials, several vehicles were on the flyover and many of them were feared to have been washed away in water when the flyover collapsed.
Police Ranipokhri told the media that the area had received very heavy rainfall since Thursday.
“Water suddenly increased in rivulet and began hitting the flyover on both sides and soon collapsed.
Water also causes severe damage in the area and now we have put our people to stop traffic on the route,” said Station Officer Jitendra Chauuhan.
The Ranipokhari Flyover connects state capital to Rishikesh through Jolly and Dowala’s grant airport.
But now the police have divert traffic and ask people traveling to take the Nepalese agricultural route.
Senior district officials including Dehradun District Habistrate (DM) have also reached the place and now attempts to save vehicles trapped on flyovers.
“Police and Srf are in a place and vehicle trapped on flyovers are now brought to safer places.
But when the river is still high we face difficulties.
The search also to find if someone is drifting on the river when the flyover collapses,” said a person Official.
