Rare lung malformations are repaired by blocking blood flow

Nagpur: In a rare achievement, the Nagpur doctor improved lung malformation by stopping blood flow to abnormal growth and saved the lives of a two-year-old boy from Akola.
The boy suffered bronchopulmonary sequestration, which is a rare condition where the lung tissue develops without being connected to airways, sometimes in the lungs and sometimes outside.
According to the doctor, a small portion of the kiri lungs is not connected to the airways and receives abnormal blood supply from the aorta.
Because it is not connected to the airways, it fails to contribute to respiration.
In general, maintenance choices in these cases are operations.
But, the boy, who suffered from this condition for the past 2 years, was very weak.
So the doctor decides to go for a different, rare and unique treatment path.
“The two-year-old Arma has repeated the episode of cough and cold along with a very bad and less heavy diet.
He weighs only 7kg at the age of 2 years which is significantly less than expected at this age because the ideal body weight for this age is 13kg,” said Dr.
Ashar Khan, who treated the boy along with a cardiologist Dr.
Manish Chokhandre and Dr.
Mohd Shakeel Sheikh.
“We decided to use the novel technique to block this blood flow segment by entering small ‘rolls’.
This procedure is carried out without general anesthesia with sedation to the patient,” said Dr.
Khan.
A small tube is inserted through the groin in a way similar to how angiography is done.
The artery of abnormal feeding is intubated and the roll is put into it to block blood flow.
Overall, 9 rolls like that were included and finally the good results were achieved.
After surgery, the patient was dismissed the next day.
“We did this process in November 2020.
Since then, we have followed up on patients.
Armaan slowly began to gain weight and its problems with recurrent cough and hidden cold.
He did not have further episodes of hospitalization for the past 6 months.
At this time, weighing 10.5 KG and lead normal life, “said Dr.
Chokhandre.
The patient’s father is labor and their financial condition is very weak.
When the family was the beneficiary of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, the entire operation was funded by the state government.
Interestingly, CT scans of children recently showed a complete resolution of abnormal segments and significant increase in normal lung function.
Doctors claim this is a rare procedure and only around 25 such cases have been reported throughout the world.
The senior pulmonologologist at City said the process was novel and was not explained in any textbook.
He also advised a doctor to send a journal review journal to peer.
The process of novel bronchopulmoner (BPS) is a rare malformation that is usually removed through operations being at risk if these patients because they lack weight and weak small tubes are inserted through the groin and artery of abnormal feeding blocked (GBR1) stopped, abnormal segments are fully completed (fig 2 ) Doctors revealed the details of the case after following up patients for more than 6 months throughout the operation covered under Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana
