New Delhi: With a political situation that takes a new turn in Afghanistan, uncertainty and indifference is to tower in the future of their top cricket, especially Rashid Khan and Mohammed Prophet, who will compete in the remaining IPL in the UAE from September 19.
The Taliban will take control of the South Asian country because President Ashraf Ghani has reportedly fled to Tajikistan.
Rashid and the Prophet are not in Afghanistan.
They are in England, competing in the ‘one hundred’ tournament.
Rashid played for Trent Rockets and the Prophet representing the London Spirit.
BCCI oversees developments and hopes to see the participation of Afghan players in the Indian Premier League.
“It’s still too early to comment but we keep a watch.
For us, there is no change and we hope Rashid and other Afghan players will be part of the IPL,” said the BCCI source to PTI.
It still has to be seen if Rashid and the Prophet remain back in England after completing ‘one hundred’ on August 21 because they have family at home.
And if they live in England, it will be interesting to see if BCCI asks them to make the same rented flight that will bring Indian players to the UAE from Manchester on September 15.
Both Rashid and the Prophet played for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
BCCI is expected to talk to the Afghan cricket board in the situation.
According to the FTP ICC schedule, Afghanistan is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for six white-football matches this month but the final schedule is still not out.
Rashid is the Afghan T20 captain.
Rashid, the Prophet and Mujeeb Zadran are some Afghan players which are regular features on the IPL team.
Rashid is one of the most sought-after T20 freelancers in the world of cricket at this time.
Both the Prophet and Rashid have urged world leaders to intervene when Afghanistan faces the worst socio-political crisis in the past two decades.
“Dear world leaders! My country is in chaos, thousands of innocent people, including children & women, getting martyred every day, home & property destroyed.
Thousands of families are displaced.
Don’t leave us in chaos.
Stop killing Afghanistan & destroying Afghanistan.
We want peace, “Rashid has tweeted a few more days.
