New Delhi: Tokyo Olympic Silver Medal Wrestler Wrestler Ravi Dahiya kicked Indian legs from Queens Baton Relay for Birmingham Commonwealth Games with symbolically running in the national capital here on Wednesday.
The Queens Baton for Birmingham games arrived here on Monday.
“It feels like it’s fun to be part of Baton Relay.
My preparation for Commonwealth games is running full and I’m sure to win gold in Birmingham,” Dahiya said.
The game is scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 8.
Unlike other editions of the game, QBR this year will be held as a symbolic event because of a pandemic.
In Delhi, QBR was attended by officials of the Indian Olympic Association, including President of Narinder Batra and Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, among others.
Also present on the occasion was the English High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis.
“I am happy to be here at the beginning of Baton Relay in India.
The relationship between India and Britain is very good and the sports are really fundamental to it.
The 75th anniversary of Indian Independence this year and I think sports is one thing that brings both countries together , “Ellis said.
“Covid has created all kinds of complications for everyone since the last two years.
Luckily the cases in the UK have peaked and tended to fall.
India was very well prepared for this wave.
I hope about a very exciting game in Birmingham.” The next QBR will be held in Bengaluru on January 14 and Bhubaneswar on January 15.
It was also scheduled to travel to Ahmedabad on January 13 but it had been canceled due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The Baton brought a message from Queen Elizabeth II from England.
