LONDON: Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has tested the positive Coronavirus and isolated along with three of his close contacts including Bowling coach Bharath Arun team as a precaution, BCCI revealed on Sunday.
Shastri returns positive results in the lateral flow test (fast antigen test) and will remain in isolation until other RT-PCR test reports.
There was no threat to the ongoing fourth test against England because all other play members had been tested negatively in two lateral flow tests conducted on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Coach Fielding R Sridhar and Head of Nitin Patel Physiotherapist has also been isolated.
“The BCCI medical team was isolated by Mr.
Ravi Shastri, coach’s head, Mr.
Arun, Bowling coach, Mr.
Sridhar, coach Fielding and Mr.
Nitin Patel, Physiotherapist as a precautionary measure after the lateral flow test of Mr.
Shastri returned positive last night,” Secretary BCCI Jay Shah stated in the release.
The team will travel to Manchester on Tuesday and if these four tests are positive in RT-PCR, they must undergo 10-day room isolation followed by two negative RT-PCR results.
“They have undergone RT-PCR testing and will remain at the team hotel and have not traveled with the Indian team until confirmation from the medical team,” he continued.
“The remaining team members of the Indian team’s contingent underwent two lateral flow tests – one last night and one more this morning.
Members after returning Negative Covid reports are allowed to continue for the fourth fourth test on Oval.” The flow lateral test always does not provide accurate results because this is a quick antigen test (mouse) and it is a form of independent test with the kit given to each member of the party.
The Indian contingent has carried out a lateral flow test every day since Rishabh’s pants tested positive for Covid during a three-week break.
It can be understood that Shastri might have symptoms after attending the launch of his book in the hotel where guests outside are also permitted.
“Because there were no restrictions in England, outside guests were allowed during the Shastri book launch party.
These people are also the closest contact, so now it has caused mandatory isolation,” said BCCI source.
“You feel for Bharath Arun.
This is the second time he has to be isolated because other people have tested positive.
The last time it was Dayanand Guaranteed, a masseuse, who came into about Arun and then was positively penetrated,” he added.
