Mangaluru: Dakshina District Administration Kannada and Zilla Panchayat has established an expert committee to submit a comprehensive report on the dismantling of the century nellikatte government school in Putture.
A report submitted by DDPI and Beo Puttu about school demolition, has not been considered, because it is incomplete, said Kumar, chief executive, Dakshina Kannada ZP.
“Therefore, Deputy Commissioner KV Rajendra has decided to hold a separate committee consisting of the Executive Engineer of the Department of PWD and Panchayat Raj, and DDPI, to submit a comprehensive and technical report at school.
They will analyze whether the school is dilapidated and pose a threat to Students, as claimed by SDMC schools and principals.
Based on the report, further action will be taken, “Kumar Toi said.
Kumar said that school surveys that were above 100 years, will be carried out in the coming days.
The 156-year-old Nellikte government school in Putture was destroyed in the second week of December.
The demolition was opposed, especially by the admirers of Kannada writers, social activists, environmental lovers, Yakshagana Artiste, filmmakers and Shivaram Karanth-city film thinkers.
The school was considered the first school in the puture of Taluk, and a place where Jnanpith Awardee Shivaram Karanth did theater and Yakshagana worked.
There is a proposal to restore the building, and turn it into a museum.
