Ready to fight viruses with booster doses

Bhubaneswar: It is estimated that 17.50 Lakh beneficiaries are set to receive a dose of Covid-19 (third java) booster because the country starts a special inoculation drive from Monday.
Beneficiaries include 60-pluses with co-morbidity, health workers and frontline workers, who have received the final dose of the previous nine months vaccine.
The government roughly estimates the amount of 60-plus with co-morbidity to more than 10 lakh, assuming that at least 20% of the total population of the elderly has one or other health conditions.
“We estimate there will be 10, 47,400 beneficiaries in the 60-plus category with co-morbidity.
We have 3,53,173 health workers who have received their final doses and 3,52,265 qualify among frontline workers to receive prevention shots.
We has ensured that all logistics for vaccinations are ready on the designated site.
Drive vaccination will be held in more than 2200 sites.
Normal vaccination exercises 15-18 age groups and 18-plus will run together, “said Bijay Panigrahi, Director, family welfare.
Health officials say 60-plus with co-morbidity does not need to produce a certificate of their health condition to get a booster shot.
“The 60-plus receiver needs to order a slot like someone else or can walk to the vaccination location and tell the vaccine that it has co-morbidity.
Health worker and qualified frontline only need to give their cellphone number, provided on the Cowin portal, for Order a slot or provide a number directly on the site, “added Panigrahi.
The country has so far given 5.25,38,339 doses where 2,21,21,170 has received their final dose.
