Record 7,790 objections submitted against Ajni tree logging for the IMS project

Nagpur: In the mass-breaking mass movement, more than 7,790 objections were submitted by citizens to stop the logging of thousands of old trees in the Ajni for the proposed inter-capital station (STI).
In accordance with the official, this is the highest number of objection letters that have been received by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to date for tree logging cases.
Previously, a large number of objections were submitted to save Bharat Vann urban forests.
As reported by the previous TOI, the NMC Department of Gardens has extended the deadline to submit a letter of objection to June 30.
Not only Nagpur, people from other cities have also advanced to objects against the loss of large-scale green cover.
According to the protection of Maharashtra (urban trees) and the preservation of the tree law, which was passed by the state government in 1975 and was changed in 2017, public hearings about objections were compulsory and decisions must be given within two weeks.
However, while the process of submission of objections occurred, the state government issued AR, brought new tree norms in place with direct effects.
In accordance with the amendment in tree law, if more than 200 trees aged 5 years or more need to be cut down, this case will be referred to the State Tree Authority of Maharashtra.
Go with a guide, NMC will now submit this problem to the country.
“It is possible that public hearings will not be held and this problem will go straight into the hands of the state government.
We will get more clarity so the country’s tree authority is formed.
NMC will follow what authority recommended,” NMC official said.
In speculation about how the age of the tree will be counted, officials say that the state will provide direction related to the same thing.
“Civil officials may be trained by experts about this,” he added.
The objection has been referred to after public notification issued by the National Highway Authority (NHAI) – project implementing agency.
The notification states that more than 4,500 trees will become an IMS phase.
Activists have slammed the authorities to hide facts from the public.
According to several documents, the actual project is being planned in four phases, which experts will destroy more than 40,000 trees.
