Panaji: Beautiful Aquarium Fish – The Red Lionffish – Caught by a fisherman from Cacra in Zuari on Sunday has created a buzz on social media with pictures of creatures that look unique to do a round.
Red Lionfish (Pterois), mostly found in the Indo-Pacific region, are species of venomous sea fish and are not consumed by locals here.
It has decorative chest fins and venomous fin rays, carrying stings that produce sharp pain that can last for some time.
Fishermen alert to fish.
“Lionfish, which we found on Cacra Beach on Sunday, was different from what we arrested last year.
These are mostly red.
Others also have a blue and white ribbon,” said Fisherman Sanjay Pereira.
Lionfish, also called zebrafrafish or butterflies, not infrequently and lost into occasional mesh.
On Sunday, Yogesh Satondekar, a fisherman based in Siridao, lifted one in his catch on the River Zuari, outside Vasco.
“I found this fish for the first time, asking a question to a fisheries scientist, and released it after clicking on a photo,” he said.
Fisheries surveys have indicated their presence in coral reefs.
“From our experience, this fish is rare in the estuary, but we have recorded them on the island of Grande during an underwater survey,” Fisheries Scientists, Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR), said Goa, G B Sreekanth.
Like many other colorful fish found on coral reefs near Grande Island, Lionffish has a high ornamental value.
