Red sandalwood trees stolen from Gandhi Baug

Letter: Red sandalwood tree, about 22 years old, stolen from Gandhi Baug who was historic at the early hours on Thursday.
Thieves cut iron cages around the tree before cutting down about five sticks of the stem.
However, valuable tree branches are left in place.
The Garden Department of Municipal Corporation (SMC) which manages a public park in the city has reported the incident to the police.
While the parking department’s supervisor office adjacent to Gandhi Baug, the Athwalines police station is located almost 100 meters away.
The police did not register a violation until Thursday night.
There are two security guards on duty in the park.
Alleged that theft was done around 1am.
This is the third theft of sandalwood trees from SMC parks.
About six years ago, a sandalwood tree was stolen from Kasturba Gandhi Bal Udhyan in Chowk and in material a few days, another tree was stolen from Gandhi Baug.
Red Cendalwood costs around Rs 10,000 per kilo and enjoys high demand for various purposes.
“The tree was stolen after cutting solid iron cages.
We have reported this case to the police and they will register this case,” said S Jautam, park supervisor.
