Mumbai: The Meteorology Department of India (IMD) on Friday issued a red warning for six Maharashtra Regency which has been pounded by heavy rain, estimating “very heavy” rainfall and recommend prevention.
The warning was issued for the next 24 hours for Raigad District, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg on the coast of Konkan and also for Pune, Satara and Kolhapur in West Maharashtra.
Very heavy rainfall is “very possible” in isolated places in the area of Ghat (highlands), said an IMD official.
“Very likely” shows the probability of appearance of 51 to 75 percent, he added.
Forecasts for Satara are “great likely” which means the probability of more than 75 percent, he said.
Rainfall above 204.4 mm in 24 hours is considered very heavy.
Forecasts also include red alert for Ratnagiri and Satara for Saturday.
The intensity of the shower will drastically drop from Sunday and Sunday, the word IMD.
