Hubballi: Experts and personnel in law enforcement agencies have repeatedly appointed the need for more units to examine forensic evidence in the state.
Police personnel throughout the state often have to bear suffering waiting for test results on forensic evidence, which they must send to Bengaluru or five other regional centers.
Now, the state government finally initiated a process to establish a Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Hubballi, which is expected to help the police accelerate investigations in various cases.
The RFSL center is scheduled to be equipped with all modern equipment, along the midline in Bengaluru.
The government has identified a building on Jalan Gokul, which will accommodate the RFSL unit.
A recent official team visited the building and checked the same thing.
Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Labhu Ram said, “We have identified a building owned by corporate western transportation North Carnataka on Jalan Gokul.
The previous building accommodated the police commissioner’s office.
Among other things, senior officials including the Director General of Police (Crime and Technical) and Director of Laboratories Forensic Science, Bengaluru, checked the building recently.
“RFSL in Hubballi will be the sixth, in addition to facility in MySuru, Davestavi, Mangaluru, Davanagere and Kalaburagi.
Preparations are being carried out to establish other laboratories in Ballari.
FSL Director Dharmendra Meena said, “We want to start the operation at RFSL in Hubballi at the end of this month.
The power of sanctions for RFSL in Hubballi is one of the deputy directors, six assistant directors, as many senior scientific officials, 12 scientific officers and six laboratory servants.
So far, we have posted one deputy director, four senior scientific officers and one officer, while the remaining staff are being trained.
“The RFSL center in Hubballi will be equipped with a machine to analyze DNA, check data and other physical evidence.
Some facilities at the center of Hubballi are not available in existing regional centers.
Welcoming Development, Hubballi-based Advocates Sanjeev Badaskar said, “Investigating many cases will be delayed due to burden in the laboratory in Bengaluru.
After the laboratory in Bengaluru began to operate, investigations in various cases can be accelerated.”
