Patna: Apart from Covid’s challenge, children’s registration in the 6-14 age group at a government school in Bihar has increased by 3.6% in the past year, according to the 16th edition of the annual status of the education report released on Wednesday.
The number of children registered in government schools increased from 76.9% by 2020 to 80.5% in 2021, compared with an increase of 2.8% in the last three years since 2018.
The report also revealed that more children were Children from the rural background receive entrance tickets to government schools, compared to private schools, between 2018 and 2021.
This report is based on a survey conducted in rural areas from 581 districts in 25 states and 3 Union regions between September and October this year.
It covers 76,706 households, 75,234 children in the age group 5-16 in addition to teachers and staff of 7,300 government schools.
Significantly, the proportion of boys and women enrolled in government schools in all classes increased from 2020 to 2021.
The percentage of girls who were registered up from 80.9% by 2020 to 82.9% in 2021 increased from 73.2% in 2020 to 78.2% this year.
The State Education Department launched a ‘PravesTavav’ campaign to register students at school, especially from class I to IX.
Education Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said the department conducted a special campaign to ensure 100% of children’s registration, which reached school age.
“Education officials, teachers, NGOs, leaders at all levels (including Panchayats) and intellectual societies are asked to recognize the children who are out of school.
Now, we have a positive result of the campaign,” he told this newspaper.
According to the report, the availability of smartphones to registered children also increased from 27.2% in 2018 to 54.4% by 2021.
However, only 11.8% of children have access to studies all the time while 34, 4% use devices for limited periods for destination education.
Most of the nearly 53.8% of the children registered still do not have electronic devices for studies.
Choudhary said the department was aware that the maximum children did not have access to electronic devices and internet facilities for online studies.
