Chennai: The Chairman of the Minister M K Stalin on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give up the obligation of Rs 1,178.12 crore under the MNGU to Tamil Nadu.
In a letter to PM, a copy released to the media, the main minister said the center had released the RS 3,524.69 Crore for this fiscal, which was fully used until September 15.
There were no subsequent funds released after that.
“MGNREG is considered a stable chance of livelihood in rural areas.
The current delay in payment of wages causes difficulties towards thousands of rural households,” Stalin said.
He said the delay could lead to people who recognize the scheme and can cause urban migration for employment opportunities, which must be avoided by MGNREG.
MGNREGS, one of the largest social security programs, provides a maximum of 100 working days guaranteed in fiscal for each rural household.
“Therefore, the funds to payment of wages can be released soon, especially considering the festival season,” CM said, urging mod to act at his request well.
