LONDON: Don’t let them eat this cake.
A piece of one of the Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding cake was ready to be auctioned by 40 years after the wedding witnessed all over the world.
Iced slice comes from one of the 23 official wedding cakes that marked the wedding on July 29, 1981 from the 20-year-old British throne heir.
It features a marzipan base and a coat onlay-sleeve sugar, gold, red, blue, and silver, on it.
A piece of cake was given to Moyra Smith, a member of the Queen’s household in Clarence House.
Smith stores it on a can of flower cakes and with handmade labels on reading: “Handle with Care – Prince Charles & Princess Diane’s (SIC) ‘s (sic)’ s (sic) ‘s (sic).” He signed and dated 29/7/81.
The Smith family sells cakes to a collector in 2008, but is ready to be auctioned again on August 11.
It is expected to take between 300 pounds ($ 418) and 500 pounds ($ 697), together with the order of service, ceremonial details and royal wedding breakfast programs.
“It seems that in good condition exactly the same as the initially sold,” Chris Albury, auctioner and senior assessor at Dominic Winter Auctioneers, said.
“But we recommend not eating it.
