New Delhi: The paring of Indians competing in Uganda The Badminton International suffered a shock when there were several explosions near the hotel in the capital of Kampala on Tuesday.
Two bomb blasts lead to the death of at least three civilians and cause chaos in Kampala as a fearful population to escape from the city center.
The head coach of the Indian Badminton team, Gaurav Khanna said the explosion occurred around 100 meters from the hotel but everyone was safe and there was nothing to worry about.
“Some players left for the Badminton hall when there was this explosion.
It caused a lot of chaos on the road.
We also immediately returned but now everything is fine.
We have talked to the embassy and there is nothing to worry about.” Khanna told PTI.
“It won’t have an effect on our schedule and the tournament also continues.
We have a large contingent, including 54 players who compete in the tournament.” According to local police, it was a coordinated attack by extremists and three dead suicide bombers in the explosion.
Tokyo Gold Paralympics Medalion Pramod Bhagat, which is part of the Indian contingent, who participated in the tournament also said they were safe and there was nothing to worry about.
“We are safe.
There is an explosion.
There is nothing to worry about.
It hasn’t affected our schedule.
We don’t really feel it.
There is a little chaos but everyone is safe and the tournament will run on schedule,” Bhagat, who will open his campaign on Wednesday, saying to PTI.
“We are 15 Indian players in our hotel, there are 15-20 players in other hotels too but everything is safe.” Indian badmintons carry social media to inform the safety of the players.
